As most regular readers of this blog will already know we mark the Autumn turning point in the year with an invitation for everyone to try to Touch the Hair of the Goddess (to catch a leaf falling from a tree before it reaches the ground).
This year I thought we could start a new Yule tradition: ‘Last and First’.
- The idea of Last and First is that on the day of the solstice you take a moment to witness the last rays of the setting Sun at the end of the solar year (which this year is on the 21st) and the first rays of the rising Sun the following morning.
Of course, you may have some problems doing this if you can’t see the Sun because of the weather (or some other reason). If that is the case then:
- You could simply note the time of day for the setting and rising and, at the appropriate time, take a moment and be aware of the event as it happens.
- You could simply note the respective darkening and lightening of the sky.
- Or you might mark your last and first visible sighting of the Sun on those days.

Unlike catching a leaf there is no need to take a photograph of the event, unless you want to of course.
In fact, it may be better in these high-pressure, high-technology days that you do not take a photograph. Simply pause and be witness in your own location and mind to the great dance of the solar system, feeling your personal transition through the two terminators of twilight and dawn separating the night from the day.

Carcer in the first house (Sagittarius) is a powerful and determining influence in the whole of the Casting. It provides you with a sober outlook for the start of the week which, given its Saturnian slow progress, is likely to underpin and colour most of what happens this week.
This placement suggests that there is a feeling of endings and finality in Flow at the moment.
Carcer, Cauda Draconis and Caput Draconis are all associated with fate in their own individual ways. You can think of them as the lessons of life and of karma being worked out or created.
Cauda Draconis in the fifth house (Aries) suggests that our interactions with others may currently be ‘immature’. That does not mean childish, frivolous or pointless though. It means immaturity in the sense of others not providing quite the right thing at quite the right time.
The Pars Saturnii is in the eighth house (Cancer) suggests that you have been looking deeply and personally for some form of transformation in your life. You may have been looking for some way to break old patterns and to establish new ones. The Cancerian influence combined with the drive of the fifth house may have led you to feel that others could be helpful. But while they may be helpful emotionally they are less likely to be useful practically.
In other words, while you may get support from others the support only likely to be comforting rather than useful. What is likely to be more useful to you is to forge your own practical solutions…
Take control of your Destiny
The Active Transform this week is Caput Draconis (14) in the 10th house (Virgo). It is actually the interplay of the two Dragon’s nodes which provides the insight and practical benefits of the Casting. The dramatic changes driven from the eighth house combined with the karmic insights of the nodes suggest that the time is right for a form of rebirth. If you are in Flow you have probably sensed that already. You may even have started to seek it. But the message of Flow is that rebirth needs to be reborn. In other words, the nature of change has to change.
It is the destiny of the Phoenix to be reborn. Ideas and actions, relationships and meanings become perfected in your outward expressions of Virgo in the 10th house.
You need to create your own perfect way. Others can only help you so far. Ultimately it is your path and nobody can walk it but you.
When you are a solitary traveller you are not always alone, however!
Take comfort in knowing that all solitary travellers travel together.
