As you sit and watch others play you feel filled with strong sentiment. You feel protective towards others and also for yourself. You see them doing what they feel is right and you yearn inside for their happiness.
You feel strong sense of protectiveness — for yourself and for them. You know that they must make their own way in the world and that they must learn their own lessons. But you have already learned the lessons from the mistakes they will inevitably make.
How can we bear this, this desire to set of this free and yet wanting them to be safe?
You know, too, that you won’t be happy until they’re happy. This is the agony of watching others grow. They have a whole bundle of chaotic energy as they busily live and learn. You know you can’t do it for them but only quietly get on and be there when they need you.
This requires a particular kind of strength from you this week. It is a strength born of care and concern. Just do what you have to do.
Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are.
Do it well. Be there for them.
Celebrate their triumphs with them and stick their paintings on the fridge.
And when they cry — and they will somehow — wipe their tears, tell them it will all be fine.
And hold them.
Hold them now and always.
There were no Rogues this week.
